Mining and Exploration Forum was organised online on 1 July 2020 and was the second edition of MINEX Europe 2020  series of online events launched by MINEX Central and Eastern Europe on 3 June and finished bMINEX Southern Europe on 2 July. 

MINEX Western & Northern Europe was organised by Advantix Ltd with the support of MICROMINE and SRK Consulting.

Event Summary 

The Keynote Session on De-Carbonisation of the European Economy & How This Transforms Mining Industry opened the ForumModerated by Christopher EcclestonePrincipal and mining strategistHallgarten & Company the keynote session included speakers from EIT RawMaterials, Technology Industries of Finland and Department for International Trade and Investment The session was followed by Panel Discussion on Securing the Supply of Critical Raw Materials from the European Mining Hubs to Meet Low-Carbon Economy Agenda. 

Mining Hotspots Session was sponsored by SRK Consulting and chaired by James GilbertsonManaging DirectorSRK Exploration. The session featured presentations by five speakers from Sweden, Norway, Greenland and the UK who gave company presentations and provided updates on regional exploration, mining, and business potential. 

The session was followed by the session Development of energy metals and materials mining hubs in Europe, moderated by Tim McGurk, Corporate Consultant (Mining Engineering) from SRK Consulting (UK) and provided an overview of activities around opening new energy metals and minerals mines and exploration projects across Western and Northern Europe. The session continued with the  Interactive discussion on the Disruptive Forces and rapidly transforming the Energy Metals Industry’s Future where presenters were joined by panelists and discussed important for industry topics such as  Development of energy metals and materials hubs across EuropeDisruptive forces in the energy metals marketReview of the exploration projects to meet future demand for Lithium, cobalt and nickel In Europe and many others.  

After short interval the forum continued with the  Panel DiscussionOmnes viae aurum ducunt. All Roads Lead to Gold chaired by Philip Haydn-Slater, Non-executive Chairman, RiverFort Global Opportunities. The session brought up a discussion on the uncertainties that the world and, specifically, financial markets are now facing. The presentation brought up an overview of the degrees of uncertainties, how they may shake out, and what may lie ahead for gold as well as changes in the monetary regime and financial markets as they affect gold.  

The Panel Discussion was followed by the first Technical Session on Maintaining Productivity Through TechnologyThe session was sponsored by MICROMINE and looked into how technology has helped Consultancies and Mining and Exploration Companies through the Pandemic lockdown and their return to “normal” operations. Case presentations by guest speakers from Scotgold Resources and Addison Mining Services were followed by two speakers from MICROMINE who presented technology of Machine Vision in underground mining” and a showcase of “Point cloud modeling and automated rings drilling enhancements in Micromine 20.5.  

The second Technical Session was the last one on the agenda for the day and focused on Building Safer and more efficient Mining.   

The day was concluded by an online networking event allowing all the participants and viewers to meet each other and discuss the questions and ideas they gathered throughout the day.  

 

Event figures  

Over 280 participants registered to watch the broadcast prior to the event. On the day of the Forum, the broadcast was viewed by almost 350 unique visitors.  

MINEX Western & Northern Europe was broadcasted live for 6 hours and consisted of 7 sessions and 24 presentations. The total number of sessions views reached 596.  6 Exhibitors were exhibiting virtually alongside the Forum and provided delegates networking opportunities at the hosted virtual meeting rooms.
